[EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW] – BEAR TRAP (PUNKIN PATCH) #ARTISTSPOTLIGHT

artist spotlight BEAR TRAP

This week we caught up with one of the founding members of The Punkin Patch, Bear Trap.  This rapper has been one of our favorites since day 1.  With classics under his belt like “The Gathering”, “Welcome To the Punkin Patch”, “I Don’t Give A Fugs” and of course, his unforgettable verse, kicking off their hit song “Whoop Whoop Anthem”, Bear Trap has some bangers under his belt.  Reigning from the streets of Massachusetts, this juggalo extraordinaire had a lot to air out.  So we gave him an outlet and dug deep into his story to find out what this wicked icon is all about.

DEADSHARK: AT WHAT POINT DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD CRAZY LYRICAL SKILLS?
BEAR TRAP: Hahaha. well that’s a tough one. I’d have to say the first day I cussed out my step dad. He was complaining about some stupid shit, so I fired back. By the time I was done, I realized I had just yelled a full 16 bars.

DEADSHARK: WHO INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE?

BEAR TRAP: Anyone that doesn’t give a fuck and just wants to party and get down. Fuck all the uprights. Also Christopher Columbus, that rap he did about his journey, some might say he was the first great lyricist.

DEADSHARK: HOW DID YOU LINK UP WITH THE PUNKIN PATCH?

BEAR TRAP: Me and Octaboss were in a group at one point called The Sickle Cell killers. Then his wife died. Then his other wife died, so he needed a bit to grieve. A few years later I met Jax at a Wal Mart, we were both wearing the same shirt. Octaboss was ready so we put it together.

DEADSHARK: WHERE DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR NAME, BEAR TRAP?

BEAR TRAP: One day I actually set up a few in the yard to try to snag my step dad with them. The name kind of stuck from there.

DEADSHARK: YOU MENTION YOUR STEP DAD IN A LOT OF YOUR TRACKS.  WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF BAD BLOOD BETWEEN YOU 2?
BEAR TRAP: Well it all started when he was born. He was born a bitch. He came into my life a bitch. He’s going out a bitch. He’ll be a dead bitch.

DEADSHARK:
WHAT KIND OF FEEDBACK DID YOU GET FROM THE WHOOP WHOOP ANTHEM MUSIC VIDEO?
BEAR TRAP: Mostly positive. People realize that we’re having fun and just saying what we want about whatever. Some mark ass bitches were haters, but every successful group is going to have those.

DEADSHARK:
WHEN CAN WE EXPECT ANOTHER MUSIC VIDEO?
BEAR TRAP: Hopefully soon! This bitch ass snow has made it hard for a few of us to get together. Maybe we’ll do a diss track on the snow.

DEADSHARK: IS THERE ANOTHER ALBUM IN THE WORKS?

BEAR TRAP: Oh definitely, but for now we want everyone to keep checking out Clown Bait!
